I wanted to design my own posters for my new college apartment that could make the place feel like home. When reflecting on the things that make a home, I considered some of the values I hold dear: Travel, Movement, Solitude, Adventure, Creativity, Exploration, Laughter, Connection. I used photos from my own life, both of me and taken by me, and associated them with one of these values. I designed all of the letters myself as a sort of challenge to keep my graphic design skills sharp. These posters became my passion project over the summer and now they sit above my bed as a constant reminder of the things that are most important.

It’s difficult to be away from home, especially when my childhood bedroom was my sanctuary. I can’t help but miss the walls filled with drawings and photo booth photos, music posters and memories. It’s hard to turn a house into a home, especially when that house is a twin bed and half of a room. But I think art is the best way to bring your memories, emotions, and experiences to a place that is otherwise bland and temporary. A dorm room is a blank canvas longing to be filled. So that’s what I did. These are just a few of the 10+ posters I created. I used an overlay on these pieces to make them look like they were shot on a vintage camera. It’s mostly for aesthetic purposes but also to create a sense of nostalgia.
